SECTION 6: Roof Components Quantity Calculations

6.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Once you have decided upon the Collector Array layout and you understand the components available to you, you are able to calculate the component quantities that you will require.

The example previously quoted has a requirement for either

      350 metres of HYDROMAX Absorber Strip 
                        or
  8 off x (HC30) 2.80 m2 HELIOCOL Absorber Panels

For this example we will consider a roof that is 11m long and 4m deep.

6.2 HYDROMAX ABSORBER STRIP AND HEADERS

In this example the length of each Absorber Strip from the Supply Header to the Return Header is 20m (10m out and 10m back).

For the roof size we have nominated, we have allowed 750 mm of free space adjacent to the Header assemblies.

Note: The maximum allowable individual Strip length is 30 metres

In our example we require a total length of 350m of Absorber Strip.


    TOTAL ABSORBER STRIP REQUIRED   
  --------------------------------   =  NUMBER OF ABSORBER STRIPS
  INDIVIDUAL ABSORBER STRIP LENGTH

                              350 
                             -----   =  17.5  (round to 18 Asorber Strips now
                               20              the length of each can be 19.44m)

The number of Header Sections required for this layout is equal to the number of Absorber Strips (18)

   Number of Header Sections = 18    (9 each for the Supply and Return Headers)

The length of each Absorber Strip from Supply to Return Header will be 10m. The number of Absorber Strips required would be:

             350
             ---  =  35
              10

The number of Header Sections required for this layout is half the number of Absorber Strips rounded up to an even number.

 Number of Header Sections = 18  (9 each for the Supply and Return Headers)

The number of Header Sections calculated in both the above cases is the minimum number required. Order 2 additional Header Sections per 20 (or part thereof).The extra header Sections will give the installer flexibility to lay the Absorber Strip neatly across the roof.

Note: Additional Header Sections may be needed for a project where the roof has a large number of obstacles, such as vents and chimneys.

SUMMARY

So far we have calculated that we require the following quantities:

  350 metres Absorber Strip   (7 rolls)  Part No 109601
  18 off Header Sections                 Part No 109701

6.3 HYDROMAX ACCESSORY CALCULATION

Additional to the above we can determine the quantities of remaining components as follows:

In addition the appropriate quantities of PVC supply and return pipe work will be necessary to connect the array to the pumping system.

Note: The schedule of quantities for Absorber Strip connection components are not exact. These schedules should be used as a guide only.

6.4 HELIOCOL ACCESSORY CALCULATIONS

We previously determined that we would use,

    8 off x 2.80 m2 Absorber Panels Part No 109683  (HC30)

From this calculation we can now determine the quantities of remaining components as follows:
