SECTION 3: Collector Array Sizing

3.1 AREA SELECTION GUIDE FOR AUSTRALIA

The diagram below shows the Minimum Basic Ratios of Collector Array to pool surface area for Australia.

Procedure:

  1. From the selection map locate in which zone in which the pool falls A, B, C or D.
  2. From the table below the map read off the ratio required for your zone. This gives you the recommended Minimum Basic Ratio of Collector Array area to pool surface area(between 55% and 75%).

The Minimum Basic Ratio may be increased depending on several factors (see in section 3.4).

3.2 PREFERRED LOCATION

When locating the Collector Array, preference should be given to:

Best performance is achieved when the Collector Array is positioned in accordance with the above guidelines.

Deviations from this will increase the amount of Collector Array area required.

3.4 - SECONDARY FACTORS WHICH REQUIRE AN INCREASE IN THE RATIO OF COLLECTOR ARRAY AREA TO POOL SURFACE AREA

Answer all questions and increase the Minimum Basic Ratio in response to each question as indicated.

Important Factors To Be Noted

Once the final ratio has been calculated the total Collector Array area can be determined by the equation.

REQUIRED = POOL SURFACE AREA x FINAL RATIO



3.5 COLLECTOR ARRAY AREA CALCULATION

From Our Example Installation :

HYDROMAX


     Zone B Minimum Basic Ratio             = 0.70
     Exposed to strong winds                + 5%
     More than 45 from the equator          + 5%
     Final Ratio                           (= 0.70 x 1.05 x 1.05 = 0.77, say 0.80)
                                            = 0 80

                      Collector Array Area  = 27.3 m2  x 0.80

                                            = 21.8  Square Metres


HELIOCOL

     Zone B Minimum Basic Ratio             = 0.65
     Exposed to strong winds                + 5%
     More than 45 from the equator          +5%
     Total Ratio                           (= 0.65 x 1.05x 1.05 = 0.72, say 0.75)
                                            = 0.75

                                            = 27.3 m2  x  75 %

                                            = 20.5  Square Metres



3.6 HYDROMAX STRIP LENGTH CALCULATION

3.7 SUMMARY

The following details have now been calculated from the example pool.
HYDROMAX Total Ratio = 80% Net Collector Array Area = 21.80 Square Metres and Strip Length = 350 metres HELIOCOL HC30 Absorber Panels = 9 or HC40 Absorber Panels = 7 or HC50 Absorber Panels = 6
